Today, I had a ton of laundry to do so I got up bright and
early and filled all my tubs with water. I started actually DOING the laundry
at around 9am.
I finished the washing...well some of it, by 2pm. Ya. It
took me quite a while. I am not so pro at this whole “washing by hand” thing
yet. Apparently you are supposed to do laundry “small small” which basically means,
do a little at a time in the words of Auntie Joe. This makes complete sense
because since we were in Accra last weekend, I had 2 weeks of laundry to wash.
My knuckles are raw, they are literally skinned and they were bleeding.
I will be doing laundry small small from now on!
I got most of it washed and on the lines, and then Petra and
I decided to play with the kids across the street while our bed sheets soaked
in laundry soap. I guess we weren’t paying attention to the sky, or the fact
that some of the kids ran to take down their laundry, but it started to rain;
it wasn’t pouring, but the drops were coming large and hard. We ran to grab our
laundry down...two weeks of soaking wet and damp laundry that had to now come
inside with no place to hang it...
My towel and bedsheets are still sitting in the water
soaking...tonight is going to be interesting. Haha.
One plus to living here is that I can do laundry on my back
porch. It was blazing hot today so I sat and did it in my bathing suit. Might
as well work on that tan while I work...efficiency at its finest! I am getting
super brown! (YAY).
I had a bunch of things to do for my business class this weekend,
so I spent some time on that and got some rest after our busy day yesterday.
Auntie Joe saw me yesterday and said, “Caro! Your eyes, why have they changed
colour?” I replied with, “Why Auntie Joe? Do they look more blue because of my
fabulous tan?” She said, “No, they have turned red. They have changed colour. I
think you are tired from your travels. You should rest yourself.” Haha...thanks
Auntie Joe. I was tired though, so that’s completely fair.
We played soccer with the kids across the street. Eddie
passed the ball around with Petra while I chased TeeTee around while he ran squealing
and calling me obruni. He is too young to understand that I am not Melissa, for
some reason I cannot communicate that to him, so I just play with him and deal
with it. That is just fine with me.
We tried later on to ring out our sheets and hang them up;
JUST as Petra had all of hers up I looked at the sky and saw black. It was
either darkness or rain. Then the drops came, and hard. I don’t think we will
be sleeping with sheets tonight folks.
